1) High intensity discharge (HID) lighting technology replaces the tungsten filament of incandescent light bulb with a capsule of gas and metal halide mixture
2) Because the gas filled containing xenon, that it is also called Xenon discharge lamp
3) The light is emitted from an arc discharge between 2 closely spaced electrodes hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass envelope
4) Light emitting arc is first achieved by applying a high voltage, which usually can reach as high as 23kV, across the electrodes to break down the resistance between electrodes, so that the gases or vapors inside the lamp may start conducting
5) Then regulate the flow of current by using electronic ballasts, which supply stable voltage and current to maintain the light-emitting arc
6) While consuming less power, the amount of light produced by this HID is greater than conventional halogen bulb, and its color temperature is closely approximate to natural daylight
